1:00 PM | Meeting in Mexico City
Private transportation to Paso de Cortés.

3:00 PM | Paso de Cortés
Arrival, National Park registration, and introduction to the park, the volcanoes, and the route.

3:15 PM | Hike to La Joyita
Begin the hike with stops to explore the landscape, learn about the local flora and fauna, and hear the legends and history of Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl.

5:30 PM | La Joyita
Arrive at La Joyita, take photos, and enjoy a 30-minute picnic with views of the surrounding mountains.

6:00 PM | Return Hike
Begin the return along the trail, with additional photo stops and time to enjoy the changing light.

Sunset | Along the Trail
Enjoy sunset views of the volcanoes before continuing toward Paso de Cortés.

7:30 PM | Paso de Cortés
Return to the trailhead and begin the drive back to Mexico City.

The path from Paso de Cortés to La Joyita and back is approximately 16.5 km (10.3 mi) with around 423 m (1,388 ft) of elevation gain. The hike starts at approximately 3,680 m (12,070 ft) and reaches close to 4,000 m (13,100 ft) at its highest point.

The trail follows established mountain paths through the high-altitude landscape of Iztaccíhuatl-Popocatépetl National Park, with gradual elevation changes and sections of uneven volcanic terrain.

No technical climbing or mountaineering skills are required, but the altitude and total distance make this a moderate hike. A good level of fitness and previous experience with long walks or hikes is recommended.

Weather conditions can change quickly at this elevation. Your guide will monitor the conditions and adjust the route or schedule when necessary to keep the experience safe.

Mountain weather can change quickly, so we recommend bringing an extra warm layer even if the weather in Mexico City is mild.
